Father First

What is the key to finding God?
Start with The Father!

There is only one God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God of Israel. The God of the Bible. The key to finding the One and only God is starting with God the Father. The Father is the beginning.

Understand the basics of God:

God = The Father = Spirit = invisible on the throne in heaven

Lord God = The Son = Word = visible in whatever form He chooses, both in heaven and on earth (a man speaking to Abraham, a man wrestling with Jacob, burning bush, rock, the Ancient of Days, born of a woman, the Lamb)

Why must you start with The Father?
The Father is greater!

The Father, who is Spirit and invisible from the beginning, is first. The Spirit is first. Because The Father is Spirit and invisible, The Father is greater.

“the Father is greater than I.” (John 14:28)

“My Father … is greater than all.” (John 10:29)

“God is Spirit” (John 4:24)

Why must you start with The Father?
The Battle – The Father vs. the father of lies!

The evil one is the ruler of this world and “the father of lies.” You started hearing and believing lies about God from the time that you were born, up to this very day.

The evil one’s first deadly lie to man was “you surely shall not die” (Gen 3:4). That lie is still killing people today, successfully repackaged by men as:

  • God loves you.
  • You’re saved.
  • You’re a good person.
  • All your sins are forgiven.
  • You’re going to heaven.
  • You don’t need to fear God.
  • You don’t need to obey God.

But what does God think of this self-righteous gospel of the self-saved, self-anointed, and self-appointed?

“you shall surely die” (Gen 2:17)

Believing men’s lies and opinions about God leads to death. For a chance at life, you must allow The Father to replace all of men’s lies about Him with the Truth – the Word of God as taught by Him. Change your attitude. Be willing to be corrected by your Creator. Submit to The Father’s discipline.

“If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me” (John 13:8)

if you are without discipline … then you are illegitimate children and not sons. (Heb 12:8)

…those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth (2Ths 2:10)

How do you start with The Father?
Moses and the Prophets!

The One God is the Author of the 66 books of the Bible. By His Spirit, He moved His servants to pen His words. Then He used men to compile, print, and distribute His Word.

The Father calls people to Himself, to His voice in the Scriptures, for the people to hear His words, learn from Him, and fear Him. To start with The Father, you must hear His voice and believe His words in Moses and the Prophets of the Old Testament.

In the Old Testament, Moses (the Law) is the first five books: Genesis through Deuteronomy. The Prophets are Isaiah through Malachi.

Why Moses and the Prophets?
To correct your bad attitude!

The Father uses Moses and the Prophets to correct your attitude about Him, your Creator: you are to fear Him and obey Him.

The Father uses Moses and the Prophets to correct your attitude about men and nations: His view of them is much lower than you realize.

The Father uses Moses and the Prophets to correct your attitude about who you are: dust, grass, merely a creation.

And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. (Gen 6:6)

“Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For why should he be esteemed?” (Isa 2:22)

“All flesh is grass … Surely the people are grass” (Isa 40:6,7)

“All the nations are as nothing before Him … less than nothing and meaningless” (Isa 40:17)

“Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me, and keep all My commandments always” (Deut 5:29)

Why Moses and the Prophets?
So you will believe the New Testament!

The Father calls you to His Word in Moses and the Prophets. You must obey His call. If you do not hear and believe His voice in Moses and the Prophets, you will not believe or understand the New Testament, the story of One rising from the dead.

You must listen to and believe The Father first.

“I called, but you did not answer; I spoke, but you did not hear.” (Isa 65:12)

“They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.” (Luke 16:29)

“if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote of Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” (John 5:46-47)

“If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.” (Luke 16:31)

Why Moses and the Prophets?
The Father reveals The Son!

God the Father is Spirit and invisible, on the throne in heaven. However, He takes on visible form – The Lord God, The Son – whenever and however He chooses, in heaven or on earth.

He walked among Adam and Eve in the garden. He appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He appeared as a burning bush, and was the Rock that followed Israel. He spoke with Moses face to face, and was seen by the elders of Israel. He appeared to Ezekiel and Daniel as the Ancient of Days, etc.

You must recognize the visible Lord God written of in Moses and the Prophets. Otherwise you won’t know Him sent by God yet born of a woman. Jesus of Nazareth is the Lord God of Israel. He and the Father are One.

The Son of the New Testament is the God of the Old Testament in visible form.

“Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!” (Deut 6:4)

“I and the Father are one.” (John 10:30)

“He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9)

How to read Moses and the Prophets:
Put God first!

When reading God’s Word, you must change your attitude: put God first. God’s Book is about Him, NOT you. Look for who He is, what He is doing, and how He creates, separates, thinks, judges, disciplines, and destroys.

God’s Word is truth when He is the Teacher, not men. Believe the Word of God, even if you do not understand it yet. Always ask Him, why is this story here? What do You want to show?

You must go into Moses and the Prophets with the correct attitude – that of a child knowing nothing, willing to learn from God. Forget everything you think you know about God. Bring nothing of man. Go into God’s Word caring only what God thinks. Be in agreement with God.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.” (Isa 55:8)

“Thus says the LORD, Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind” (Jer 17:5)

There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. (Prov 14:12)

Seek the LORD while He may be found

(Isa 55:6)

“But you shall seek the LORD at the place which the LORD your God shall choose … to establish His name

(Deut 12:5)

His name is called The Word of God.

(Rev 19:13)
