“No one knows”

You must understand that two different events are in view from God:

1. When heaven and earth will pass away – Of this event, Jesus said that no one knows the timing, not even the Son, but only the Father. Heaven and earth will pass away after the Son has ruled on earth for a thousand years. God as Father in heaven will decide when heaven and earth are to pass away. (Note: The Father and Son are One – read John 10:30 or 14:9. But this has to do with roles.)

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” (Matt. 24:35-36)

2. When the Son of Man will come – The Lord knows the timing of this event. Similarly, He knew that Passover was the exact day of His death. Not only does the Lord know the timing of His return, but so do all to whom He wills to reveal. The day will not surprise His “few” who learn the Scriptures from Him rather than listening to men.

For it will be a unique day which is known to the LORD, neither day nor night, but it will come about that at evening time there will be light. (Zech. 14:7)

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief… (1Ths. 5:4)
