How can you think you don’t need to repent?
- John the Baptist, who had the Spirit since his mother’s womb, went out preaching “repent” (Matt 3:2).
- Jesus, conceived by the Holy Spirit, with the Holy Spirit resting on Him in full after His baptism, went out preaching “repent” (Matt 3:17).
“But,” you say, “that was before Jesus died. Things changed.” Did they?
- Peter and the apostles, filled with the Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, were preaching “repent” (Acts 2:38) to both Jews and Gentiles.
- Paul, sent out by the Holy Spirit, went out preaching “repent and turn to God” (Acts 26:20) to both Jews and Gentiles.
- In the Lord’s Revelation letters to the churches, which emphasize hearing what the Spirit is saying, He tells the churches to “repent” (Rev 2:5, 2:16, 2:21, 2:22, 3:3, 3:19).
And you still think you don’t need to repent?!
If you haven’t repented according to God, why would you assume you’re forgiven of sins? John came “preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins” (Luke 3:3).
What is repentance according to God? It’s not what you’ve been told in church. It’s not about fleshly sins. It has to do with believing God. You need to stop believing men, and believe God and His Word only.
